Board » Technical Discussion » Batch file that can create multiple instances of qtVlm

I've created a batch file for windows that allows you to set up and run independently multiple instances of qtVlm of a single install. Download the attached file, read the instructions in the header and make the changes to the file as needed. Tested with Version : 5.10-9-p4 (meltemus) (Dec 30 2021)
Qt 5.15.6

Works just like you said :-)

QT 10 xx -p4
Windas 10
After an intial mistake I made in changing the directory name in 'qtVlmLoc=...' all works.

Did not now your use of 'mklink /H' and 'mklink /J' in 'qtLinks_1.bat'
Clever.

I learned something new for me.
Thank you.

Compete with yourself; share with all
Just a quick word of caution. It is only tested with the latest version of qt. I would not try and use it with any other version. It may work with future releases, provided qtVlm do not add any new files to the release.
Works for the latest version 5.10-10

New version that supports V15.12.0.

IMPORTANT: This is a significantly different version from previous ones. You need to delete all the folders in the target folder (where you run qtLinks.bat from) before running the linking batch file.

I've also included the batch file I use to launch qt from my race folder, which you can edit to suit.

Note: I did have an issue with one of my instances which kept crashing. Copying the qtVlm.ini from a working instance and overwriting the fault one fixed it. Obviously, you will need to edit the Configurations as they will be the same as the source instance.

Great job on the batch file! I’ve played around with similar setups for running multiple instances of software, and it’s a lifesaver. Just a quick tip: when you’re editing the paths, make sure they match your directory structure. I once spent ages troubleshooting a simple path issue.

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
