AHOY THERE, YE RUM-GUZZLIN’ ROGUES!

On 15 September at 00:00UTC Sailonline will start its annual race to collect barrels of rum from Carib distilleries and deliver what remains of their contents to Cancun, Mexico. This year the race will start four days before International Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept 19)!

All SYC Members are hereby invited to adopt a pirate name for this race only.

If you are a paid-up SYC Member or if you join SYC during the Carib Rum Run you may request a change of your usual Sailonline boat name just in this one race to one of your piratical preference!

Names are agreed on a first-come, first-served basis BUT all must be suitable and "fit to print", Sailonline is a family-friendly site so we reserve the right to disallow names we consider inappropriate.

All requests for such changes will only be actioned if posted in this thread - hollering in chat is fun, but only by posting here can you guarantee your pirate name! You may pre-request a name in advance of the race opening for practice.

PLEASE DO CHECK THE LIST BELOW before submitting a request so that you don't ask for a name already taken by someone else before you!

Please note that the change of boat name for this one race will not affect either your usual login credentials (username and password) or your SYC rankings.

Once the race opens, as always, I will be endeavouring to change boat names as efficiently as possible!

REMINDER: you may join SYC and, once your burgee is visible, request a change of name for the race at any time up to and during the Carib Rum Run until race close!

"Sometimes it is the people no one can imagine anything of who do the things no one can imagine." ~ Alan Turing
Bein' who I always was – Captain Rat, I'll stay that way. Rats you are! Arrrggh!

Arrr, Captain Rat, the name be yers and no mistakin’! May yer whiskers twitch with the scent o’ plunder, and may no ship be safe when ye set yer course! Rats you are, and rats ye shall remain!

I would like my KaSToR boat to take the pirate name "Chasse-Marée", pseudonym of François Grognier, buccaneer, privateer and pirate of the Caribbean Sea, active from 1681 to 1686

TY
Chasse-Marée / KaSToR

Aye, Chasse-Maree, the name of a true sea rover be rightfully claimed! Fly it proud on yer KaSToR vessel, as did François Grognier in days of old—carvin’ his legend through the Caribbean mist. May yer course be bold and yer cannons louder still!

vida .... "One-eyed"

Arrr, One-eyed, the name be granted and feared already! With a single gaze sharper than a cutlass, ye'll strike terror from port to port. Keep yer good eye on the prize, and may the seas bend to yer will, ye scurvy legend!

brad ellis here - aka braddlepate for the Rum Run!

addlepate is "an archaic term for a foolish, dull-witted, or confused person"

Over the years some of my pals have called me braddle as the first syllables of my names are "Brad" and "El". Maybe they're on to something! haha

Ahoy there, braddlepate! Yer name be as fine a blend o’ rum and wit as any we’ve seen on the high seas! Whether fool, rogue, or genius in disguise, ye’ll be sailin’ the Rum Run with style. May yer casks never run dry and yer compass never spin, ye merry seadog!

--- Last Edited by Patrick70119 at 2025-09-12 20:32:27 ---
Weekend be flyin' the joli rouge movin' an illicit cargo of casks in the aft hold, so sailing under the nondescript sea name "Bootliquor"

Aye aye, Bootliquor — yer name be sly and suited to the trade! Slippin’ ‘neath the radar with casks in the aft and the joli rouge flappin’ bold, ye’ll be runnin’ the Rum Run like a shadow in the mist. Smooth seas and smoother spirits to ye, ye crafty corsair!

Me boat was renamed by a scurvy, mutinous crew to

"Polaris-Plunderer"

Arrr, the Polaris Plunderer be a legendary pirate ship, known far 'n wide fer its daring exploits 'n fearsome reputation on the high seas. Named after the North Star, Polaris, which be guidin' sailors fer centuries, this here ship be navigatin' with uncanny precision, even in the darkest o' nights. The crew o' the Polaris Plunderer be known fer their unmatched navigational skills 'n their ability to appear 'n disappear like a phantom, strikin' fear into the hearts o' their enemies. Tales o' their treasure hunts 'n battles be whispered in taverns across the world, makin' the Polaris Plunderer a name that evokes both awe 'n terror.

Arrr, the name Polaris-Plunderer be duly granted, and a fearsome title it be! Renamed by mutiny and carved into legend, yer ship follows the North Star like a curse with a compass. Slippin’ through the dark like a ghost with gold in her sights, ye and yer crew be a tale in the makin’. Let the seas tremble—Polaris-Plunderer sails again!

Freyja = "Satisfaction" as in previous years.

Aye aye, Satisfaction — the name be yours again, steady as a well-trimmed sail! A ship that’s seen her share o’ spoils and song, she returns to the Rum Run with a wink and a wake. May the winds favor ye, and may yer rivals find nothin’ but regret and yer stern in the distance!

--- Last Edited by Patrick70119 at 2025-09-13 13:59:33 ---
Kipper shall be Saltheart Ripper, enjoying the morning with a rum soaked kipper.

Avast! Saltheart Ripper be now carved into the rolls o’ legend! With a heart as briny as the deep and a taste for rum-soaked kippers at dawn, ye’ll tear through the fleet like a storm with teeth. Stand clear, ye lubbers — the Ripper sails with vengeance and appetite!

--- Last Edited by Patrick70119 at 2025-09-14 04:48:50 ---
For PepsPV5, it’ll be La Sombra Negra—to stay discreet and slip through the small islands unnoticed.

Aye aye, La Sombra Negra be granted — a name fittin’ for a shadow on the sea! Slippin’ silent through the island shallows, unseen and unstoppable, ye’ll leave naught but whispers in yer wake. Keep to the dark, claim the prize, and vanish like mist at dawn!

Dyer Dhow Derby 2026

Most winter weekends, SOLer wsguerin and his friends at the Mamaroneck Frostbite Association venture forth on Long Island Sound to race Dyer Dhows, originally designed as WWII tenders. Indestructible little boats, great comradeship and serious short sharp races of 10 to 20 minutes duration. Sailonline now invites you to experience the joys of the Dhow in winter, virtually, by way of a slightly longer 14nm race: from Mamaroneck to Execution Rocks, over to the Gong Buoy and back to Mamaroneck. And if the wind pipes up to 20kn and beyond, you'll find SOL's customized polar will plane, rather than nosedive!

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.
