Board » Flag Officers » Races » IMSYC - Explanation and Apologies

Post annotated by Incognito :
This thread was moved from the category Sailonline Yacht Club.
As many have noticed, in the last part of the IMSYC my boat was steered by WINSTON.

It is not my custom to let my boat be handled in such critical situations and yesterday evening all I asked (Gilles) was to check, after the update, if my TWA which was set early in advance could lead me to pass the land tip near Gdansk. Obviously this was not the case, so WINSTON noticed, at 3,30AM that my boat was bound to crash so he took over and steered ita10267 home.

I apologize to anyone who might feel that this makes my victory less fair.

Andrea (ita10267)
That's OK. You made all race very good, from start to finish. I don't have any claim.

Never heard that boat sitting was an issue. Happens all the time, and quite often between close competitors (which tells a lot about the SOL community :) ).

Before I joined SOL, I once steered a another boat througout a whole race. I had received relatively strict instructions. He won, ahead of me! :-O

I am even thinking of creating one day a forum category for crew exchanges ...

Regards,

Francois
I have not any problem with that.In the beginning of SOL, I had a Co-skippership wit BGosh, and my results were much better that time... just because I can't spent all my free time to SOL. I have more problems with help from routeplanners, but that's another discussion... where we shall never come to a fair solution.

Goodness ita - I have only just seen this thread and am sorry that you have felt the need to put it up. How anyone can have an issue with WIN briefly boatsitting for you is beyond me!! You get excellent results on SOL, so does WIN...I just can't see how anyone can object!!

Boatsitting is one of the decent things about SOL. I have and do boatsit for a few, all know that I am not particularly good at SOLing, but in the absence of instructions also know I will do my best for them.

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!
