A sailor by the name of Mistli
Wished for poetry to be written briskly
Having got her wish
For her favourite dish
She ended up feeling 'misty'
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
For Mistli, who Wished for a Limerick when her Position Improved

I know of this woman from Sweden
Who's currently not really leadin'
She likes limericks
Mistli gets her kicks
When the bard ends up heedin' her pleadin'
Explanatory Note

According to Irish tradition Limericks are bound by three rules:

A/ The rhymes must be A-A-B-B-A
B/ The rythm (count syllables) must be 9-9-5-5-9
C/ The contents should allude to something frivolous.

For the purposes of this thread and SOL chat I have omitted C.
To Mouthansar:_ the latest challenge is to write the limerick rules as----a "Limerick"!!!
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
I haven't always abided by the rules myself, Rod; but your challenge is inescapable. What do you think of this:

If a limerick you want to write
And endeavour to get it just right
There are certain rules
That serve well as tools
To keep rythm and rhymes really tight

A and A, B, B, A is the rhyme
9-9-5-5 and 9 beats the time
If you're on a roll
While sailing on SOL
With a limerick in you can chime

However, I found out this morning
There should be a general warning
Although we are men
Equipped with a pen
There really can't be any porn'ing

Now you. Let's have a SOL poetry slam :)

The last time I saw all those letters
They were sported by Sweden's own betters
They'd sing all they liked
With a dance and a mike
I think I would rather I'd met her

Great! Another SOL challenge keeping me from getting ANY work done(and Thank You!!)

A limerick is written for jest
And the Mouth seems to do it the best
We all watch our rhymes
Our 9s, 5s and times
The results we just could not have guessed
Rod and Shamrock, I have your numbers down for manly bearhugs whene'er the opportunity might arise.
Jepsom was Always my Favorite

If you really do want to bet some
I suggest all your money on Jepsom
At 265
His race is alive
And he's dodging the flotsam and jetsam

'265' should be pronounced 'two-sixty-five' for this one to work :-)

Thx for being a part of your limerick Mouthansar :)

My English isn´t good enough I think but I had to give it a try... ;)

Mistli says Hi from a snowdrift. Now it´s her turn for a shoveling shift. She vomits when the snow falls down... Because the snow drifts fills all the town. Farmor on the other hand loves when he can go ski-lift

Tall Ships Races 2025 - Le Havre to Dunkirk

Welcome to the first of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . The course for this first race is between the French ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk; circa 125nm in Sailonline’s magnificent 90m Barque.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
