Board » General Discussion » polars for the 5 boats of Augustimånen?

Page: 1 2 Next

How would we choose between the 5 boats if they are just names too us? :)

Can we have the polars or at least a general description?

Thanks.
Kalle pointed me to the blog post, polars now found :)
I cannot seem to locate the blog with the polar info for the 5 boats. Can you help a frog out?

is anyone's polar behaving "oddly". the prediction figures seem to be way off on mine and the indicator for speed is way out in the 18knt range yet my boat is only clocking 8knts. using J80

thanks
Ok si I looked at the polars, now what.
without picking a boat I can't look at the race course. Is it a light air race, upwind/downwind, reach ???
I can't see how to pick one boat. Any advice?
Try the new web-client. I think everything is ok there.

I'm sure it's no problem choosing a boat in the client, the problem is how can we know which boat is the best? It would depend on the wind when the race starts but we can't see the weather until we register. So... Catch 22?
But that is a part of the fun. Either wait and register/pick late or join early and hope for the best (as in real life) :-)

That all depends on that we would have any kind of weather forecast to base our decision on. Now the only official weather is in the client and that's not accessible before we choose boats.

Sure, we could use GRIB data but is that really the way to go?

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
