Hi RC

My suggestion for the NE & NW passage hasn't made it to the proposed race list. Do you need more detail on these races or is there some selection process for proposed races?
Hi Scotsman - Did you complete both kmz files? I only recall seeing some numerical waypoints that AGage put together in a kmz file.

Waypoints need to have names... they don't have to be placenames, but something appropriate to your race.

The race needs a name and, as you will see from the guidelines on proposing races (in teh Race Proposals Forum) you need to draft an invitation as well as a race description.

We need to know how long the race will be and what boat you wish to use and, ideally, a sense of how long it will take to complete.

Finally... have you checked that the route you have chosen is actually doable in SOL?

Sorry to have dropped the ball on this - as you can see from the Unraced races list, there are a bunch of long distance races that have been pending for a long time.

Recent improvements in how the server is being managed means we can push former usage limits a little :-)

ok, thanks. I know what I need to do now!
The same thing happened last year when the Race to Mackinac was in the Preliminary Calendar but then was dropped at some point as the Monthly Edition was published. So here we are again I will not assume that it will show up without this extra comment.
None so blind
Hi A2R - I am actually trying to get an official buddy-up for the race but, until I get a yes or a no, I don't want to put anything in the calendar ;-)

But... you weren't to know that so, thank you for the reminder!!
This race has run within SOL every year in sync with the actual event, even before I got here, except last year when this partnering obstacle seems to have obfuscated the scheduling issue. Are we not allowed to mirror this race, even with a different name, unless we receive permission from the sponsoring Yacht Clubs ?

Partnering should be a bonus not a sine qua na.

A2R - if the real race doesn't want us running it with the official name then we will run the course but call it something other /similar. I see that the Race to Mackinac now has some heavy duty sponsors and once the "branding" option has been taken up, I think SOL just needs to be careful.

We WILL be running the course but because of the approach for a buddy-up I don't wish to tread on toes at this point!

I love this race so there is no way we are not doing it this year!!

Dats a promise :-)
RC, thanks for the expanded explanation and reassurances. Lawyers have sharp elbows which is why it is best to let sleeping dogs lie.
None so blind
A2R - still no feedback from the real race organisers so it is now in our calendar as the Chicago-Mackinac 2012.

:-)

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
