I think just forbidding jumping will solve 99 % of the problem. What will be left are accidental jumps.
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I'm right.
Rod, if the server can apply 100% perf. loss before/after a SLI jump, we could just as well put the boat on twa=0 instead, like actually beaching.

As long as this is not implemented in the server:

- SLI jumping can happen by accident.
- Tracks don't show the exact path the boat has sailed (if on twa), so track can show a jump while there was no jump at all, or the other way around.

It's impractical for people to enforce a rule like "SLI jumping is not allowed". The only real solution is enforcing it on the server.

SLI jumping has been allowed for a long time, let's keep it that way until the server can detect it.

As the real problem is SLI jumping, I think best thing is just to solve that.

All these suggested penalty-systems would be needed to be implemented to the server and ranking code as well, I'd rather be solving the SLI-jumping.

The whole question of SLI jumping would become redundant if we were able to have course changes at a waypoint instead of at a time. :)
That is how I used to sail IRL, I would turn after I passed a point - not 'x' minutes after I had started, regardless of whether I had passed the point.
The problem of SLI jumping would be solved by calling it "Doing a Vesta" with TWA 0 and 100% perf loss---exactly like real life!!!!
This is supposed to be a simulation of ocean racing navigation, not a video game.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
In the current race and northern triangle leg 2 I was in close combat with boat Sabbi until we got to the Castle Island mark. There Sabbi didn’t,t appear to round the mark thus increasing his lead, according to the visual. It suggests rankings etc are not to be trusted and makes one wonder is it worth the time be involved

I have taken a look into this and can confirm that Sabbi did round the mark correctly, it's best to give the server a few minutes after big maneuvers to allow the boat tracks to update, also ensure that you have the maximum zoom enabled in your settings (Misc > Settings > Allow extra zoom (Warning: incompatible with PR rules)).

I can confirm that a boat will not be set as "rounded" if it hasn't rounded that mark.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
