Board » Technical Support » 1st Marker on the prediction line

There are 7 marks on the prediction line, 6 of them are at 1 hour prediction points, what is the first point? This point is close to the boat. Is this a point at which when it is past a mark or headland you can safely send a command without rounding too early or hitting the headland.
Thanks

OOps! That was me logged in as woody1.
Take it "ESEA" go sailing
It's a little bug that will be fixed very soon! The first dot is approx 1 minute from the boat.
Is there any way of knowing when to execute a turn around a headland or mark without cutting short or hitting the land?
Maybe the extra mark could be kept and placed at the point at which the command will be executed if entered immediately after the last update. In other words if this mark is beyond the mark/headland you can safely enter your turn command.

First, we are working on implementing a "smart" predictor that will actually take the currect forecast in account. However, since there is no way for us to tell what data a NEW will have, we can never make anything more that a "prediction", so we can never make a guarantee that a boat will arrive at a certain point at a certain time.

Woa, things got a little complicated...please ask if you need a clarification.
What you are talking about is great it is a lot better than having nothing. What I am talking about is is more in the real time scenario. ....coming up to the mark .....ready steady ....hit send... aaah sheeees .....too early!@#&%!
Now if that mark I talked about is placed (like the 1hr ones)ahead of your boat at one interval of update increment, it would be relatively safe to send a command if it has reached the target

I think when approaching the mark it is always the compromise between being safe and cutting it tight. We also have an update to the server side planned (ETA not known) that will increase the update times, that will also help.

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
