Chequamegon Point Light Waypoint # 8 is missing

Since Long Island is not rendered in sufficient detail in the SOL version the absence of this waypoint changes the tactical nature of the finish.

Can this Waypoint Please be included and the race reinitialized ?

Thank you

In terms of emulating real races, the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week held in Queensland Australia, usually around August is a very popular series of events (usually 1+ race per day), which has some 'round the bouys' courses and also courses around the natural configuration of islands (there are lots).
Located in between Australian coast and the Great Barrier Reef near the Whitsunday Islands, its a truly beautiful location!
I cant find the actual courses online, but have them for the 2009 event in an issue of 'Australian Sailing' magazine which i could scan and upload if there is any interest.
Many of the performance boats famous from the Sydney-Hobart (Wild Oats etc) sail this regatta.
Which is yet another idea, to host ie 3 or 4 races in a week as a series?
Easiest way to find location: search "Hamilton Island QLD" in Google Earth...

August is still some time off. :)

The Race Committee will need detailed course info to prepare something.

Also, keep in mind that August is the high season for real races in the Northern hemisphere. We will have to see whether we can manage. We try to field as many real races of the Southern hemisphere as we can in this period of the year, as it is the low season in the Northern hemisphere. :)

Regards,

Francois
I only put that they sailed around August for informational purposes of the real regatta, it wouldnt make any difference when a race there was held on SOL, mainly pointing out a good location. I can scan the course diagrams and make a kml file if you like.

Hi RCs and other SOLaddicts,

I start to post some "traditional" races. I like the idea following a IRL race in SOL. Here's the first one: The Round Britain & Ireland Race, a very tough exercise in staying awake for more than a week. It was established in 1966 and is held all 4 years.
The twohanded monos or multis between 30' and 50' will start on Sunday 6th June 2010 from Plymouth. Apart from the IRL fleet with 4 compulsory stops of 48 hours at Kinsale, Barra, Lerwick and Lowestoft I suggest that we should make it in one go. Alternatively I will prepare a course with the stops.
Have fun, take care and fair winds.

Hi Solies,

If somebody is busy with this stuff as well, I want to avoid double work. I am working on the "Carribian 600" and on the "Middle Sea Race" atm. So if somebody is doing the same stuff: give me nitce, please. Ty :-)

Hello SOLissitors,
As promised I worked out a leggy version of the RoundBritain&Ireland Race. This is how the IRL fleet is sailing. We will have 4 stops à 48 hours.

Take care

Sorry for the mess down there - just leave the leg4-copies

Hi Stuart,

The Round Britain & Ireland races look perfect. For ranking purposes, I would add a waypoint at Ramsgate in leg 5. We still have free slots at the end of January and I would like to have a few European races. We could perhaps use some of these legs as test runs before June. What do you think?

SOL already had a Middle Sea Race: look for the Malta Race on 17 October 2009 in the race archive.

The race committee has already decided to run the Caribbean 600 or something similar (we might not be allowed to use this name) on 22 February 2010. Please go ahead with preparing the kmz!

The race committee has a kmz file with all the courses already available in SOL, as well as an Excel file with all the past races run by SOL. If Jakob has no objection, I can upload them here.

Stuart, given your interest in creating races, we would warmly welcome you on the race committee. That's the large majority of the work anyway!

Regards,

Francois (Incognito)

Iceland to the Falklands 2026

Welcome to an all-new route, the first of three Round the 'Old World' of Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia. To give each leg of the ROW a bit of length we'll try to hug the coasts as little as possible, so starting in Iceland our first leg of the series, which will also be the final leg of our Quarter 1 Ocean Championships takes us 7200nm to the Falklands, the full length of the Atlantic end to end. To make sure we'll get it done within the month we'll be sailing our Maxi Trimaran.

New Ice Age 2026 - Browerville to Longyearbyen

Our 2026 long-distance ice-boating challenge continues with a second race in Arctic waters, now from Browerville, where we arrived less than a month ago, continuing east, back to Svalbard’s Longyearbyen, leaving Canada’s Ellesmere Island to port and Denmark’s Greenland to starboard. It’s about 2500nm, which, if there’s wind at all, should, well-wrapped in your DN-cockpits, not take you more than a day or three, thus to complete your first (of several) online circumnavigation of the planet of 2026!

Beketov by Balloon 2026 - In Siberia

Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. Let’s pretend we’re he and eschewing horseback, let’s travel by balloon from Yekaterinberg to Krasnoyarsk – just a short 2000km (1100nm) section of the Trans-Siberian Express’ 9289km!
