Board » Flag Officers » Races » Protest against vessel Sabre77 ;))))))

Post annotated by Incognito :
This thread was moved from the category General Discussion.
I draw the attention of the SOL Committee on a suspected bug related to the overall time of the mentioned vessel achieved today in the Boston - Newport timed race as per leaderboard .The protest is presented with a smile of sympaty , but is seriosly supported by the following

FACTS

1)Sabre77 alledgedly completed the course in 4 hours 41 minutes and 16 seconds after leaving Boston at 08.35Z . The tws and angles on the course at that time span were not justifying such result , given an average speed ( without accounting for extra run ) of 28,01 Knots !!! .

2)The boats that completed the course ending from 2nd to 10th position had tws between 19.... and 23 knots , with almost perfect reach angles all the way , and logged an average speed of 23,6 knots , completing the course in approx 5,5 hours.

3)Well renowned boats departed in the same time window as Sabre77 and did the following results :

JuJu.....dep 0749...took 6H11M47S
Jepsom...dep 0751...took 5H50M19S
K1W1.....dep 0826...took 5H45M56S
Odysseus.dep 0858...took 5H47M32S
Urania...dep 0907...took 5H49M33S

Due to above evidence I claim that Sabre77 time is INCORRECT .

Could the Committe look into this matter and , should this evidence be confirmed, amend the leaderboard accordingly ?

Thanks

Where can we find the elapsed times of the race?

Thanks a lot!

Check the course sailed by "2by4" also. I think he chose the turbocharged hydrofoil for his run. Where do I click to run one of those!
My estimate for Sabre77 uses the distance traveled as 194 nm (plotting his track) and elapsed time of 4.75 hours.

Average speed 41 kts!?!

While not as impressive as a first place ranking, "2by4" sailed a VO70 over 220 nm in just over 6 hours, including a long upwind, in a hair over 6 hours, at an average speed of ... over 36 kts.
I would point out that I was grounded for part of my run - maybe 10-15 minutes

I think there is a bug in the system... ;)

I started at 20:00 UTC and try to change course at 23:00 UTC but was unable to login to the website. So I went to sleep...

My boat went to the end of the map and the next morning at 09:00 UTC or something like that I changed course to the finish line.

I think the time of the leaderboard is from the end of the map till the finish.

Cheers,

Sabre77

Red Eye - Myth of Malham 2025

In 1947, Hugh McLean & Sons of Gourock, Scotland built a radical racing yacht for John Illingworth, soon-to-be Commodore of the RORC, to a design by Laurent Giles. With a masthead rig, giving her ‘free’ sail area per the rules of the time, and short overhangs reducing pitching, Myth of Malham went on to win The Fastnet that year and again in 1949, and to compete in numerous Admiral's Cups. In 1958, in honour of the yacht, the Myth of Malham race was conceived - a mini-Fastnet to the first lighthouse on a rock west of Cowes, Eddystone, rather than the second, to be held in non-Fastnet years. IRL this year it has been raced already, but this stops us not from “Red Eye” racing its online 230nm in Fareast 31Rs, leaving how to deal with the Isle of Wight open to your own discretion.

Africa by Sea 2025 - Maputo to Mogadishu

The fifth leg of our exploration of Africa By Sea takes us north along the length of the Continent’s succulent sub-tropical and tropical Indian Ocean coast. Much fought over by traders and colonists both well-before and after a Portuguese expedition under the command of Vasco da Gama first sailed there from Europe back in the 16th century, it is yet to be properly explored as a yachting destination. With plenty of islands off- and inshore, small and very large, there is much to interrupt your 1900nm voyage and visit in your Swan 65, from Maputo to Mogadishu! Race #1858
