The fact that the vast majority of you does not remember J24Opla doing crazy things on the SOL waters ….means that we who do ….are OLD !!!!
Claudio was sail racing here in a way that today would leave most of you quite astonished …….Those who are led by routers would be puzzled to see one boat going totally alone zillion of miles away from the pack ….and those of you who trust the rules of match racing like I do would at times scream in horror seeing him in front and yet going “his own way”………….
It was simply his style…….and doing so he gifted us with a number of amazing memories of his unforgettable victories.
Claudio legacy in SOL will remain ….”unique” ..to say the least …..
Meeting him and his lovely family more than once IRL was also a great ……..GIFT !!
Ciao Claudio

Please find hereunder the mechanicals that regulate the annual certificate scheme (there has been no change for 2022).
At the end of each month in 2022 a file illustrating the up to date situation will be posted here.
If anyone skipper sees a note for contacting the coordinator alongside his/her boat's name , it means that the coordinator needs some data to fill the certificate . Please contact him as soon as possible.

- Board » Sailonline Yacht Club
-
The Rankings by Nation ( INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM) scheme will be continued in 2022, without changes.
The Rankings by Nation thread is here in the SYC partition of the Forum because, whilst the INDIVIDUAL rankings by Nation are open to everyone irrespective of membership , the TEAM ones are reserved to SYC members.
Attached underneath you find 2 DOCUMENTS:
One illustrates the mechanicals of the rankings scheme (by Nation both Individual and Team)
The other one illustrates the mechanicals that will lead to reward the individual SOLers (by Skipper both Individual and Team)
At the end of each calendar month an up to date situation will be posted here for everyone to look at and plan improvements !
Furthermore, at the end of each quarter the year to date situation will be made visible in Homepage , with appropriate links to the publishing area in Forum and commentary on the year to date situation and progress.
Please feel free to comment or ask for any clarification writing to coord@sailonline.org
I will publish here for everyone information the most important comments and clarification requests.
Happy 2022 SOLing !!

SRC is pleased to announce
THE 2022 SOL CHAMPIONSHIP NORs
________________________________________
For 2022 we felt the need for some change, may be minor to start with, but aimed to see some evolution in the years to come.
Three out of the main four Championships will not change format in 2022.
The SYC Championship will change not in format (12 races – 3 each quarter) , but in concept.
We have in fact decided that each quarter will see the three races sailed in one particular range of polars, to make the quarterly championship something of its own kind.
In particular : Q1 will see three races for the MAXIs championship, Q2 THE 30-40 FEET BOATS, Q3 the MULTIHULLS, Q4 THE 40 TO 70 FEET. Each will be the own quarter of the newly called..."ALL ROUND CHAMPIONSHIP", that will reward at the end of the year the best SOLer in “all round” classes.
In a nutshell :
OCEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Annual Championship
12 races (one each month) - 2 discards
Quarterly Championships
the 3 races of each quarter - NO discards
TIMED CHAMPIONSHIP
Annual Championship
8 races (two each quarter) - 1 discard
Quarterly Championships
the 2 races of each quarter - NO discards
SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP
Annual Championship
16 races (four each quarter) - 3 discards
Quarterly Championships
the 4 races of each quarter - NO discards
ALL ROUND CHAMPIONSHIP
Annual Championship
12 races (one each month) - 2 discards
Quarterly Championships
the 3 races of each quarter - NO discards
SUPERSOLER 2022
This year again it will be the summa of 48 Championship races (12 OCCH + 8 TRCH + 16 SPRCH + 12 ARCH) and will allow 6 discards.
Happy Championships SOLing in 2022 !

- 2022 SMPF SCHEME
- Board » Sailonline Yacht Club
-
THE 2022 SMPF SCHEME IS LAUNCHED!
SPONSORSHIP REQUESTS ARE WELCOMED
=======================================
The SMPF scheme (SYC Membership Pay Forward) will continue in 2022 with some changes , to better stimulate “true new membership taste”
At the end of 12 races in 2022 ( one each month) one annual FREE membership to the Sailonline Yacht Club will be made available to the best finishing (and fully qualifying as per rules hereunder) NON SYC member in each of the nominated races. The prize can be sponsored by any SOLer willing to do so.
The sponsors of previous editions of the SMPF scheme did either make their Sponsorship publicly known, or acted anonymously under the flag of the Sailonline Yacht Club.
The number of slots available for sponsoring one SMPF is extremely limited, as again in 2022 ONLY ONE SMPF race per month will be nominated and sponsored. SOL COOrdinator already received requests to sponsor SMPF races in 2022 , even before this thread was posted; therefore, if you are interested, please hurry up and contact me. By responding promptly to this invitation you will secure yourself a slot in the 2022 Sponsorship list
All you need to do at this time is to write to: coord@sailonline.org , and confirm your willingness to support the SMPF scheme in 2022. If available you will be granted one slot ( one month ) , and the race of that month that will be nominated for SMPF scheme will be “your SMPF race”. (Traditionally that will be the Ocean Championship race for the given month).
Some important information before you decide:
1)– Your participation to the scheme, should you want to remain anonymous, will be treated in fully confidential mode by the Coordinator and the Sailonline Nav Sim AB Board, thus there will be only three persons aware of your position in the scheme.
2)- This is by no means a solicitation to invest USD 35,00 into our platform, and you should not in any way feel obliged to adhere to the scheme.
3)- NEW RULE : The prize will be delivered to the first NON SYC MEMBER over the finish line, who had NEVER been an SYC member before. As any NON SYC member over the finish line could be the prize winner, it is recommended that the next thread hereunder is looked at after an SMPF race , as the prize winner will be announced as soon as possible after the arrival of the first boat.
4)- Should the best NON SYC member over the finish line not be eligible because lacking the requisite of point 3) above , the next in line will be identified and so on until a fully qualifying yacht is found and declared as the winner.
5)-The SYC membership earned will start AFTER the date and time of finishing the qualifying race , as the status in that race must be and remain " NON SYC "
6)- The SMPF prize will be delivered directly to the winner at the end of each nominated race, without asking for acceptance or collection. The winning SOLer will be made SYC member “ex officio” and the Management looks forward to hear from him/her sometimes after delivery.
We look forward to hearing from you and to a well supported 2022 SMPF scheme!
On behalf of Sailonline NAV SIM AB
SOL COOrdinator

Newport Bermuda Race 2022

The 635-mile biennial Newport Bermuda Race is one of the oldest regularly scheduled ocean races, and with the Fastnet Race and the Sydney to Hobart Race, it is one of the three great classic races of the yachting world. Founded in 1906, this the 52nd running of the Bermuda Race can also be participated in online.
Entries are invited for one of the four divisions:
Double-Handed Division:
Jeanneau Sun Fast 3300
St. David's Lighthouse Division:
First 44.7 Asymmetric
Gibbs Hill Lighthouse Division:
Reichel Pugh 64
Finisterre Division:
Delphia 47
Details for each yacht are available in the ‘Particulars’ links below and be sure to register your online choice on the Bermuda Race Online link – there are some fine prizes to be won.
As in real life, you can only sail one boat in one division, so choose your virtual yacht carefully, and because of the unusual (for SOL) 4-division nature of the event, please note results will not count towards ANY Sailonline Rankings.

Geraldton to Cape Town 2022
A race in the Southern Indian Ocean is always entertaining, especially in a Riptide 50. Traditionally the course would be West to East, to take advantage of the prevailing winds, but this time the SRC is challenging us to an E-W course, from Geraldton in Western Australia to Cape Town in South Africa. A brief 4800nm!
