La Vuelta

The Vuelta in Spain is a race
Who’s origins easy to trace
With cervesas a’flowin’
(The winds not a’blowin’)
It’s hard to keep up with this pace!
Rod #1 at International Yacht Paints Auckland Tauranga Yacht Race 2012

Make a speech? "Nevah---in the course---of human history--has so much----"
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The overall tone of the SOL conversations is becoming much too serious and earnest and pedantic----DTFs, DTMs, Change of name, groundings and BBQ recipes, Promises of mermaids (dugongs), polars and scudding sails----well, you get the idea!!!!
But WHERE IS THE POETRY???? Where are the JOKES???? Quips? Bon Mots? Innuendoes???
I will say no more----the rest I will leave to you, my fellow SOLers.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Limerick for the land of Haiku

Off the land of the Rising Sun
We all sail to be Number One
But the sushi and sake
Lets us get a wee cocky
And onto a beach we have run!

Thanks Rod!
Thought you'd never ask :-)

SP
O, Civilli! Si ergo!
Fortibus, es in ero.
O, Nobili! Deus trux!
Aulphyl dupuiss causan dux.

Dredged from memories of long, long ago Latin class rooms....
Modified as memories slowly return----
The challenge is to translate the Latin into modern grammatical English--or any other language of your preference......

If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
Nobody wants to translate my Latin poetry? Even if it's not quite by Ovid???
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
On Azzam being legitimately first after more than half the leg...

The peanut gall'ry thinks they are regal.
Good thing armchair sailing's still legal.
The boats are _all_ fast*:
Predict who'll not be last =
Count the gybes that are shaped like a seagull.

*except for Sanya poor blokes
Trombones...again!!

From Miami to Lisbon we fly
Skirting lows and avoiding the highs
To see how it’s done…
Trombones is the one.
His route masterful, brilliant and sly!

Very well done!!

SP
Oh, see, Willie! See her go,
Forty buses in a row.
Oh, no, Billy! They is trucks,
All filled up with cows and ducks.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
While we are all concentrating on navigational mathematics, the "ARTS" should not be neglected! So:-

A sailor who went to Galway,
Decided to do it his way.
He shut off his router,
He felt that he oughta,
But found that he'd gone all astray.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
