Remember that brainaid states on his site there can be up to 10% error in boatspeed computed by his NMEA proxy - but its usually much less, especially after tracking a boat for a while. Also, NavMon only shows SOG to one decimal point, and over 6+ hrs the difference between, say, 4.255 knts and 4.344 could add up to 1/2 Nm (and both show in NavMon as 4.3 knts), especially in terms of DTG as the other's COG may also give them a better vmc.

I know that Aaron, my point is that "the other guy is leaving me behind. Its in situations that DMG (distance made good)is somewhere between cc and twa that "two boat" testing will prove valuable. (actually - I have no idea how to approach the prob with math.)

Tom
Gilles: I have thought about using sol and may do so, but anybody can mess up the situation.

As it is, I have receives several offers of cooperation by sharing passwords or "match racing" - and I think thats the way to go.

Thanks all for participation.
Hello!
Just heard little on this topic on chat.
Why not two classes/types of races?
SINGLE; one boat per player, one player per boat, only SOL controls, only current set CC or TWA, or DCs, between midnight and 0600.
OPEN; "everything" is allowed, 2 players per boat, 2 boats per player (2nd named xxx2), routing software, UGRIB weather etc etc.
Like now, I would go for SINGLE races, thats the challenge!
Except for the time factor. For us Kiwis. it would mean being unable to sail from noon all through the afternoon till 6pm diner time & TV news!!

AND . . . what else can interrupt an afternoon at work!!!!

Got to be fair for all!!

If it breaks, it's not strong enough!
The "time factor" is the same for everybody, assuming that races are organized to be evenly distributed around the world. As it happens, when races are set to 'mimic' existing IRL races, (and most SOLers live in Europe), then most races START in Europe. Thus the "time factor" works against non-Europeans.
I speak as a North American, on the Great Lakes, where relatively few races are organized.
I know, I know, PROPOSE MORE GREAT LAKES RACES!!!!
But then the Europeans would complain about racing in such 'foreign parts'!!! No drinking in exotic bars---who wants a beer in Detroit, or Milwaukee, or Toronto....?????
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
I DO!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I saw a serious Navigator-Seaman in those pubs--particularly not the Toronto one. The Detroit pub is a "maybe"......

If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.
The one boat per race per user rule is mainly for two reasons:

1) To avoid situations where people cover multiple strategies

2) To avoid users taking up "more than their share" of server resources (the number of boats that can be handled by the system without server upgrades is finite.

So in general, no, it's not allowed to have multiple boats at any time, much because 2) will always be an issue.
That does not address the complaints about "boat-sitting", where several persons collectively run an unknown number of boats for 24 hrs per day.
If it breaks, it's not strong enough--if it doesn't, it's too heavy.

Tobruk to Iskenderun 2026

Welcome to the fourth of our nine races across the length and breadth of the Magical Mediterranean Sea, and the second that is not in partnership with a real-life event, this time for good reason, which we won’t get into here. From Tobruk to Iskenderun it’s 670nm in length, with the added complication that the island of Cyprus will be in your way. Hoping, possibly forlornly, for plenty of downwind sailing, we’ll take the Lagoon 55 for the voyage!

Rommel by Balloon 2026 - Through the Sahara

Generalfeldmarschall Johannes Erwin Eugen Rommel may have been that chivalrous, gallant tank commander of legend, led astray by the Prussian military traditions of loyalty and chain of command, but one thing he wasn’t, was mad. So, let’s do it anyway – not stick to the coast and the battle for logistical superiority – but depart the oases of Siwa south west into the desert for Agadez and its uranium. And let’s go by balloon, it’s only 2500km (1250nm)!
