There are MANY different tools (and ones that provide REAL advantage) that are not available to all...
But they are not prohibited from use...
So, if my previous results using a development client should be pulled, how are new features etc to be tested?? Under race conditions??
Opinions differ - that's all...

Perhaps, but I totally disagree. We are talking about the interface to the sailing engine here Aaron i.e. the boat. It should be the same to everyone. Based on the new client features you've described, the new wind slider is a big advantage for example. What other tools are you referring to? External tools are up to each individual skipper to use and unless someone is nifty enough to develop their own and not share, such tools are public and available to anyone.

I think the work that has been done here since I last visited several years ago is fantastic. It is the most realistic sailing simulator I've seen, so all credit to you. But when SOL developers and administrators are testing new features in the races, I think you should do that with boats specifically setup for this purpose so we can easily identify them. Use names like SOL Test or something. If you want to compete, I think it should be done on identical terms as the rest of the fleet.
Don't be ridiculous Lolla ;)

Aaron please keep up the work and press on towards a bug free client!
Could those who could not access the Beta version please try again.
Some measure have been taken to hopfully fic the problem encountered when loading.

Cheers

It works here Aaron. Thanks very much indeed.
While trying to enter a DC for the Leg 4 Start I encountered an anomaly while trying to adjust the time for execution parameter.

No matter what time was entered for this Edit when updated the time would revert to

07:18:18 AM

I made 3 different DC's with unique delay settings but they all would end up with this same reading once the Edit button was clicked & the DC list was updated.

The value I was trying to enter was 06:03:00 AM

P.S.

After several further attempts an additional 1h:15m:20s is added to whatever value is chosen.

============================

I closed & reopened the beta client and was not able to duplicate my previous report.

I believe however that the original situation may indicate an interaction between the Wx slider and the DC time base.

I noticed that the interval described was similar to my slider position which I subsequently returned to the left most position. This procedure however did not affect the undesired offset I was experiencing.

None so blind
Rest assured there is no interaction between the wx slider and the sending of commands of any type...

As posted in the other thread (Phantom DC) I actually went to quite some lengths to make the Edit feature as accurate and dependable as possible, so am at a complete loss to even hint at why this may possibly occur...

All bugs are noted and looked into though - even those that are not reproducible (or very difficult to do so) ;-)

I just noticed that in the old client you could scroll the chat window with the mouse. In the new client mouse scrolling only scolls each individual chat message?

PS! I'm on Mac or Win 7 on Macs.
Yeah that is an artifact of the way each chat is now laid out using multiple 'components' (and the text part is scrollable itself)

You can still scroll the chat with the mousewheel, just put the cursor over the scrollbar itself...

And if you click on the chat scroll bar you can also use the keyboard UP/DOWN arrows to scroll through the messages.

Jakob's Birthday BBQ Race 2024

Sailonline had two founders and Jakob, the more senior of the two, has his birthday in April which we always like to celebrate with a race through the Stockholm Archipelago from Revengegrundet Lighthouse to his mooring at Baggensfjärden. Traditionally also, like other celebrations this time of year, this feast has been “moveable”, so on this occasion we will be racing on a Wednesday in one of our latest high-performance 40-footers, the Carkeek 40. Please join us then for this always tricky 30nm race. Grattis på födelsedagen Jakob!

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!

The Beagle in the Straits of Magellan 2024

Both before and after visiting the Falkland Islands, the Beagle extensively explored the south eastern coast of South America, hither and thither, from north of the Rio Plate to the tip of Tierra del Fuego, but it was not till the end of June 1834 that the ship made it into the Pacific Ocean, transiting via the Straits of Magellan. Online in 2024, the choice is yours - passage the strait or round the cape; 400nm or more in your Class B Tall Ship.
