Just looking at the race. I assume you cant go out of the pink area. Is it possible to enlarge it north?
Many Thanks

Does nobody know the answer!
No, you cannot leave the pink area. The admin folk will review if the area needs to be extended. I think it may need to go further south.
Hi Kz

As Scot pointed out you can not sail beyond the pink boundries. They act the same as if you would hit land, boat gets pulled back one "jump" and will turn to twa=0.

We will have a good look at the race bounds today. We are reluctant to enlarge south because of real world ice-gates.

Hi!
I think it is unfortunate the the "notice of race" period is so short, for a big race like Global Challenge. I am not too much of an sailonline addict, I did not race much during last year. But during past months I did check website now and then if an ocean race was coming up. Then I was for travel for a week, busy with other things. Just to find later I was 4 days late for this start! What happened? (Look now at for exampel rumskib also.) Why not notice this type of race for a month at least? A large fleet I guess all want, no? Best regards! Mange
Hi Magnus, I must admit this race was indeed on a very short notice.

We did not plan to run this one but we responded to the overwhelming demand for this race. So in this case we where not able to give much prior notice.
We understand that this can be frustrating.

Looking ahead we are looking into more streamlined way to announce new races. We now use the blog and the race schedule but one of the things we are having a look at is a dedicated calendar for the main big races.

You certainly have a good point here and something we already looking into.

PLEASE, it's time to schedule the start for the leg 2 !!!
If we want to sail with the real boats, we must start next Tuesday 4th. And it'll be nice if we have 2 buoys : the first at 39°N - 46° E, the second at 40°N - 80°E.
Thanks for all.
Hi! I'm interested in knowing how long Leg 1 will be open to race in, and when Registering for Leg 2 will be closed. Here's the reason: I started about a week late - lets say a massive rig failure right at the start (really I just noticed the race underway and thought why not?)

Now I'm catching up with the fleet- driving hard blah blah blah. So for role playing purposes I'd like to keep going and not skip up to the front with everyone else. I get, however, that the server is needed sooner than later. I just don't want to get shut out of leg 2 due to closing registration before I'm kicked off leg 1 due to needed server space...

Thanks!
Blue the Legs are separate events as far as the server is concerned. So just register for the next one now and start with the fleet or wait as you choose. Your boat will stay at the start until you choose to do otherwise.
None so blind
Thanks!

Cross the Convergence 2026 - Samoa to Hawaii

The second race of our new series of ocean voyages across the World’s convergence zones, takes us northward again up the Pacific Ocean, now from Samoa at 13.5 degrees South, across the Equator to Hawaii, famed for its breaking surf and active volcanoes, on the edge of the Tropic of Cancer at 19.5 degrees North. It’s 2300nm, so we’ll take our very steady Steinlager II. Race #1982

Beketov by Balloon 2026 - In Siberia

Way-back-when France and England, and Spain as well, were squabbling about who should control what of North America, only to lose the most of it to their own insurging colonists, their eastern European neighbour empire, Russia, was quietly assimilating vast, thinly nomadically populated territory of its own – Siberia! Amongst the many explorers and adventurers that served Russia so well in these conquests was the Cossack hetman Pyotr Beketov. Let’s pretend we’re he and eschewing horseback, let’s travel by balloon from Yekaterinberg to Krasnoyarsk – just a short 2000km (1100nm) section of the Trans-Siberian Express’ 9289km!

West Papua to Oregon 2026

Our next race in our Ocean Championships is the first of a series of great natural migrations we will track in 2026. The leatherback turtle is the most widely distributed marine reptile on planet Earth, and chooses to breed in warm tropical waters, but prefers to forage in more temperate habitats, travelling thousands and thousands of miles effortlessly annually to maintain this way of life. Our race will follow one of the typical trips of this turtle, from breeding grounds in the seas off West Papua to the coast of Oregon. It’s only 5900nm, so to keep up, but in comfort, we’ll follow in our Gunboat 90.
