"early in the morning on day 26"
youtube (link should take you to 0:26:22 in the video)

There must be exact finish times somewhere...

The rest of the video is worth watching as well.
Dana1 found this and mentioned in the chat:

Steinlager 2 sails to first leg of Whitbread

"The total elapsed time since the September 2 start of the race in Portsmouth, Great Britain was 25 days, 20 hours and 46 minutes. "
Been watching my collection of Whitbread movies and VOR movies and am taking time to reflect of exactly how good sailors Sir Peter Blake and Conny van Rietschoten was... Masters... RIP to both.
Sir Peter Blake in particular was a genius when sailing was involved...

Had goosebumps seeing the footage of him and Grant Dalton coming in 1st & 2nd into Auckland in that 89/90 Whitbread... that squall at the end...

Tragic that some fool with greed as a motive cut short his life. We lost a great man indeed...
I like to talk a lot... sometimes I even make sense, mostly not...
OK, I know I am a bit slow on the uptake but I would like to know when the second leg starts (and where I should have looked for that information).

Thanks
It starts 3rd of March 21:00utc.

It can be found over here

It's linked at the links-page (at the top) and on the homepage (at the bottom).
Leg 2 is now open for registration folks!

Must admit that having watched a lot of footage of the VO70's in the southern ocean I'd rather do the voyage on Steinie2 if pressured to do so... She may be much slower than the modern breed of speed machines but she is way tougher

Hi Vince

Drop me a mail please.

I want to share an idea with you.

Thanks

I notice that there are no ice gates or southern latitude boundary that we must observe. I don't know if this was the case for the real race, but it is now for all around the world races. I am not necessarily advocating that we should have such limitations, but if realism is something we are striving for then it may very well be that the best virtual course for this leg would be sheer suicide in real life. Just a thought. I will be reinforcing Hirilondë's bow for ice breaking just in case. ;-)
Ice gates make a lot of sense IRL. Still, it is interesting to route without them in SOL.

Even so, I ended up setting up some gates.
Not "ice" gates, actually, but points on the Antarctic Coast that I have to leave to starboard.

Please forgive the rather arbitrary naming of these points.

Also, I have no clue as to whether using these WPs in a router will help or hurt the time to arrival at Fremantle.

Tall Ships Races 2025 - Le Havre to Dunkirk

Welcome to the first of four virtual Tall Ships Races in European waters which are concurrently being organized in-real-life by Sail Training International . The course for this first race is between the French ports of Le Havre and Dunkirk; circa 125nm in Sailonline’s magnificent 90m Barque.
NOTE: Starts and Finishes in tall ships racing are always offshore to avoid conflict with shipping and shipping lanes; online and real-life may not match exactly.

Red Eye - Key Lime Pie-gatta 2025

Opposite the Bahamas at the tip of the Florida peninsula, we find the Florida Keys, a honky-tonk arpeggio of islands, where another SOL classic, the Key Lime Pie-gatta, so-called after the famous local condensed-milk-based tart speciality, awaits to be navigated once again. We’ll race its “Red Eye” 180nm in very-American Santa Cruz 52s, ignoring such artefacts as bridges, causeways and piers joining the keys one to the other and to the mainland!

Sail Around Turkey 2025

Welcome to the 11th running of one of Sailonline's most iconic races, where our fleet races the length of the Turkish coastline from Hopa (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Black Sea coast) to Iskenderun (the easternmost harbour on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast). It’s a 1,372nm race and aboard our classic, 1st decade of the 21st Century, version 2 IMOCA 60, you should be able to get around the course in less than a week. That is if, of course, once you get out of the Black Sea you don’t stop to enjoy the sights or a BBQ or two in the Golden Horn, or on the Marble Islands, now land-locked Troy or Gallipoli or any of the myriad Aegean islands, that you shall have to carefully navigate past.
