It may be right in most cases, but for this race, if we except the possibility to pass above New Guinea, a grib at 7 or 14 days should not make any difference right now...

Thank you guys, it works fine now.

I didn't know that the message error concerned the grib file until this morning, but it was not the first time I had this problem, I shall know for the future.

76, BW is dealing with grib files in a pretty way, as I have now added a grib for 14 days without more problem !

    Cheers

    Hi everybody !

When I try to calculate a route on BW, I have a message error saying "unable to reach end point"

After checking with Jeff, it seems that the grib file I get from Brain's site is the cause of the problem, for exemple BW works fine with a grib file from Ugrib.

Is someone else experiencing the same ?

    Thanks
    Josh

Interesting work, even if I'm not sure how to use 76 theory... thank you Schakel :)

I have received the following answer from Jeff :

Quote- There was a problem with the way that GRIB files were loaded. The date and time stamp on the GRIB is converted to an internal representation (decimal hours since a fixed start date). The conversion makes some calls to system time functions. The calls worked fine as long as the computer's local time zone was west of Greenwich (that is, UTC - ) but failed for local time zones east of Greenwich (UTC +) . That's why I never saw the problem on my computers -- I've only ever run the program in the Western hemisphere! Unquote

The latest version of BW should now be working fine for the poor guys on the eastern side !!!

    Hi guys !

Schakel, it seems we have exactly the same problem... at least for your 7 running pc !

Exmer, I have a 32 bit machine and changed the directory file a few days ago. I also tried compatibility mode without result.

BW is even not working with the grib files furnished as examples...

    Regards

Thank you Schakel and Exmer :)

I have vista on my pc, yesterday I asked my friend Do Ping to do exactly the same I'm doing and he got the wind correct... but his pc is running with xp !

Thank you all for your help but I think I will give up as I have no idea what is going wrong...

    Cheers

    Exmer,

    zulu time was already selected...

But as you can see in the attached file, I have never had any wind data in the little box down right, instead I have "calm"

Maybe is it not only a question of time...

I don't want to bother you with my problems, but usually I'm available between 1 and 6 p.m. utc and after 8 p.m

    Regards

Newport Bermuda Race 2026

The 636-mile Newport Bermuda Race is one of the oldest regularly scheduled ocean races, and with the Fastnet and the Sydney Hobart Race, it is one of the three great classic races of the yachting world. First raced in 1906, now in its 54th biennial, the Race can again also be participated in online. In real life, the race is open to entry in four different division – Double-Handed, St. David's Lighthouse, Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, and Finisterre Division – which in the past we have also offered online. This year, however, our online race will be all-in one-design in silky swift Club Swan 50 yachts, so that your results can count towards SOL’s SUPerBUDdy title, whilst hopefully still giving you a chance of overall line honours against the fastest yachts of the real-life Gibbs Hill Division, especially if you can find some forecast winds that don’t quite work out that way on the real water!

Thessaloniki to Port Said 2026

Welcome back to the Eastern Mediterranean for the fifth race of our Magical Mediterranean Series. Only marginally less unlikely to be ever raced in real life during SOL’s lifetime than our previous race from Tobruk to Iskenderun, this 710nm race takes us from Greece’s ancient northern port of Thessaloniki through the Aegean island maze, south east into the Levantine Sea to a finish in modern Port Said, in splendid Swan 65s!

TuziTekwini TIMED Race 2026

Sailonline is delighted to have been invited again to partner with the King Shaka Yacht Club (KSYC) of South Africa to bring a virtual version of the Tuzi Tekwini Ocean Raceto our online community.
The Tuzi Tekwini Ocean Race is a near 90 nautical mile race down the east coast of South Africa from the port of Richards Bay to the port of Durban. Achievable in a single day and seen by some as an easy mile-builder, the course is more tactical than some think and should not be underestimated. This iconic race promises to be an unforgettable experience for yachting enthusiasts.
Our online version of the race will be a TIMEDrace so you may RE-REGISTER HEREto try again after finishing a run. You will have two weeks to test your skill and decision making after the race opens.
