Board » Technical Support » Problem with BW on Christmas race

Hi everybody !

When I try to calculate a route on BW, I have a message error saying "unable to reach end point"

After checking with Jeff, it seems that the grib file I get from Brain's site is the cause of the problem, for exemple BW works fine with a grib file from Ugrib.

Is someone else experiencing the same ?

Thanks
Josh
The grib file from brainaid's site contains data for both sides of the dateline. Open the grib manager with the grib file loaded. You'll see that the grib file in the treeview contains 2 wind nodes. Select the upper one and uncheck the "Use for routing" option.

Also it only extends 7 days. Not sure how BW handles this, but even if the software guesses the wind outside of the window (usually just freezing the last forecast) you sometimes get pretty crazy solutions.
extending the last forecast is a paved road to self elimination....
Which is why Sailplanner displays the route calulculated outside the current window in red instead of the normal blue ;)
Thank you guys, it works fine now.

I didn't know that the message error concerned the grib file until this morning, but it was not the first time I had this problem, I shall know for the future.

76, BW is dealing with grib files in a pretty way, as I have now added a grib for 14 days without more problem !

Cheers

hehe yes... "sometimes" really should read "always" ;-) GIGO
It may be right in most cases, but for this race, if we except the possibility to pass above New Guinea, a grib at 7 or 14 days should not make any difference right now...

Camel or Balloon - Khartoum to N'Djamena

As there is a lull in the calendar, your PRO has decided to risk an experiment – a balloon race over land, using a workaround to eliminate the recognition of water/land transitions. If it fails, the server may crash, and we abandon PDQ, hopefully after leg 7 of the ABS race to Suez has been decided, and before the start of the 1st OCC of Q4. Camel or Balloon – c 1000 nm from a field on the north bank of the Blue Nile at Khartoum to a field on the north bank of the Chari River at N'Djamena!
