I finally understand: "best performance" and "best accuracy" refer to calculation accuracy of the route, not to speed performance of the boat ...
Carlo Alberto
Sorry, I still don't understand the difference between "performance" and "accuracy".
Thanks for any assistance.
Zoe
Hi Zoe,
I realized that with "best performance" the software calculates the route in a faster way, but less precise, with "best accuracy" calculates your route more slowly but the result is more accurate.
Carlo Alberto
Hi Scarabocchio,

Yes, I get that, but the difference in calculation time between the two is measured in seconds!. In my computer, using "Best accuracy" usually means extra seconds, (less than 1 minute), or so of "waiting", even on long legs routings.

To me, I don't see the reason in using "Best performance" ever.

Thanks,
Zoe.
on my Mac, best performance calculated in seconds and optimizes in a minute, calculates best accuracy in a few minutes and optimizes it for a long time (depends on how many hours do you calculate the forecast).
C.A.
(I use "best accuracy" only when I want to sleep well ...)
Really?

I must have a fast computer them. I haven't seen any (routing) calculation that takes more than a minute.
I am running on a Dell Inspiron Laptop with Intel i7 at 2.30GHz and 16 GB of RAM. Windows 10. (One year old.)
Scarabocchio,

Yes, sleep at night is important.
To me that is the appeal of using Qt, so I can sleep 8 hours at night. I always skip one weather update, usually the one at 2 AM, and that is fine with me. :)

Zoe
Mine is a MacBookPro Retina 15" - 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7 - 16 GB RAM.
The computation time I said is related to the "automatic settings", if you change parameters the time is greatly reduced.
C.A.
Hello,
Best Accuracy uses more resources (memory and CPU) and takes more time. On a decent PC that should not be a problem and that should be your preferred setting.
But remember that qtVlm also runs on Android and iOS, so when running on a small phone it might be needed to reduce accuracy in order to save time (and battery). Some trials are needed in order to find the correct setting depending on your device and needs.

Christmas to Christmas Island 2025

Two waypoints, start and finish, and between them 5827 NM of two oceans. Not much time if we want to sit at the Christmas Eve table. You will need to maintain an average speed of over 10 knots, maybe quite possible with this Maxi Trimaran, but prepare your vessel well and choose the best of the many possible routes. Hands up everyone who knew there were TWO Christmas Islands?! OK, maybe you have sailed this Sailonline course before... but it's time to get ready for the 2025 challenge of racing between Christmas Island in the Pacific to Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean! It also marks the conclusion of our prestigious Ocean Race Championship 2025. Please have fun! Fair winds!

Andaman Islands PYOC 2025

The Andaman Islands are an archipelago, made up of 200 islands, in the northeastern Indian Ocean. Together with the Nicobar Islands to their south, the Andamans serve as a maritime boundary between the Bay of Bengal to the west and the Andaman Sea to the east. These waters will be the theater of our next 240nm race in the ARCH 2025 series. Which one you choose depends only on you, i.e. your Elan 410 sport will leave the Andaman Islands on the starboard or port side.

Isla San Lorenzo RTI 2025

SOL’s SRC (Sailonline Race Committee) has taken us to some unusual places in the past, and San Lorenzo Island off Lima’s Callao peninsula is definitely another one. Housing a naval base and a penal institution, no vessel is allowed within 300m of its shores. Also, with no sources of potable water, it is a matter of debate whether it is an island at all, and not just a large rock. So, whatever you do, don’t be tempted to BBQ; you’ll be arrested and go thirsty! We return for the first time since 2018 to race thirteen potentially unlucky miles in J-30s; have fun!!

Sinbad by Balloon 2025 - Carnarvon to Dondra

From here, our home in Bharatavarṣa is now north west of us – said Sinbad to his fellow balloonists. Perhaps we can ride the wind first further north, and then catch the winds that every year bring the rain, perhaps not. It’s 2600nm and we could be aloft awhile, so, Master el-Quarters, victuals only, no sandbags, provisioning the giant hamper. It will be not a picnic!
